About me.

I originally trained as a nurse (beginning in 1985). Then in 1998 I began a three year training to become a Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist. This is a specialised training which focuses on the emotional needs of children and young people and their families.

Since graduating from this course I have worked in Child & Adolescent Mental Health, within a service which specialised in working with the impact of trauma, and then within a service with a focus on strengthening parent-child relationships. Since 2009 I have worked from my private practice in Albany on the North Shore in Auckland, working with all ages and all kinds of issues.

My aim is to provide approachable, commonsense support to families about everyday challenges. This is more of a mentoring approach than that of an expert giving advice. As well as child and teenage focused work I enjoy working one on one with parents to find strategies and solutions that fit your particular family. I also work with individual adults on a wide range of issues.

β€œThe most basic of human needs is the need to understand and be understood. The best way to understand people is to listen to them.”
